Meet Barbara

Hello! In 2012, I received the news that no one ever wants to hear, “you have cancer.” In my case, it was early stage breast cancer that I found myself BETWEEN annual routine mammograms. (All men and women need to do monthly breast exams!) I am happy to report that eleven years later, I am cancer free and having a good life! But I have to admit, it was a rough ride.

While in treatment, I spent time on the internet (as you are doing now) looking for solutions for problems I experienced during chemo and radiation. It seemed like I had to go to so many sites to find the practical information I needed about things like mouth sores, not being able to eat, getting the help I needed, avoiding issues during chemo infusions, hair loss, forming and managing my support team, financial help and other topics. I spent so much time on line (hours and hours…) without finding what I needed. Many of the sites I reviewed were too BUSY for my “chemo eyes” and my “chemo brain.” I was frustrated.

Later, I developed some “handouts” and began to share them with friends and family fighting cancer. People said that my information helped them tolerate the side effects of chemo therapy more comfortably.

So now, at last, I want to share my practical strategies with you to help you survive and even thrive during and after cancer treatment. I have intentionally designed this site to be easy, calm, peaceful and straightforward. Nothing will pop up or race across the screen. Each topic will be presented in a slide show that you can watch on any device. There are “handouts” that you can print and share with the people around you so that they can provide the support you need. I am including links to other sites as well.
